home cooking

My pork roast is stuffed and injected... marinating in the icebox (fridge for all of you up North). MMM Gonna be good eating.

My plants are growing. Veggies soon!

I'm narrowing down my paint color for the chairs on the front porch. With the dark shutters, I feel the color needs to be a deep one. I've gotten the choices down to 2. I'm thinking of alternating the colors on the chairs. I love both colors and just cannot decide.

There is an old wives tale that says Thunder in February means frost in April. We are too far South to have a frost, but the weather sure turned cooler and rainy on the same dates we had thunder in Feb. Pretty neat.

I juiced some of the oranges I picked from the tree. MMMM Soo good to have FRESH juice. No additives. No preservatives. All natural.

Think I might have to have another sip.

It's working

My recycling containers are filling up! My outgoing trash has literally been cut in half. Even the kids are getting in on it. Baby steps.

All I know is the paper adds up rather quickly. Bills, junk mail, newspaper, ads, scraps of paper, and all the cardboard. Wow!

I finally picked all the oranges off the tree. It's about time, because the tree already bloomed for NEXT years crop. WOW. In about 6 more months I'll be eating oranges off the tree again. Rich trimmed the lower branches while we were out there. I was dripping with sweat. The humidity is so draining and it's like being in a sauna all the time. Blah!

My coupons are clipped and my lists are made. I nearly fainted when I saw the price of gas today. By the summer, they are predicting it to be 4.00 a gallon. Somebody. STOP. This.

Might be time to dust off those roller skates hahahaha

Change is inevitable. That doesn't mean I have to like it.

I got news today that I didn't want to hear. You know that old saying "if you don't want to know the answer, don't ask the question."? I haven't asked. I had my head stuck in the sand. I knew I was buying time. Now I have to face it and it's not gonna be easy. I'll make the best of it.. but I'm not gonna like it. My grandmother's tumor is malignant.

I like to end things on a good note. On the recycling note... our trash has basically cut in half by recycling and starting the compost. Amazing. I'm sure I can go a few weeks before heading to the recycling truck. Should be interesting to see just how much I acquire and how long it takes.

I promise I'll have better news soon. I'm off to bed.

would you, could you, do you?

Well? I'm talking about recycling. Do you?

I had a light bulb moment the other day. Daniel constantly says he has to empty the trash too much. He's right. So I started looking at what we toss out daily.

Wow! Amazing. Have you looking? Seriously. Go look. NOW!

Where you as shocked as I was? I'm guessing about half of our trash can either be composted or recycled. HALF.

We have a roving recycling truck that goes around to different areas of the city. My plan is to start small with plastic and paper and go from there.

I'm driving my kids crazy checking the bottoms of plastic containers. haha. I bought a metal trash can, heavy duty liners and I"m ready to go. Many water bottles, milk jugs, coke bottles and a lotion bottle. That's just in a few days too.

Paper? Amazing. The junk mail alone will keep me running to the recycling truck weekly. And boxes - cereal, mac n cheese, stroudels, waffles, card board, scrap paper, phone books. It adds up quick.

A compost pile is also being looked into. I'm researching and talking to people who currently have a compost pile. So interesting learning new things.

Next, I'm looking into a hybrid vehicle. I don't see the cost of gas coming down anytime soon. Not that I'm running out to get one.. just checking into them. Another interesting thing to learn about. When it's time to replace my current vehicle I'll be able to purchase one.

We were able to get the plants in the ground over the weekend. Tomatoes, cucumbers, bell peppers, jalopenos, banana peppers, eggplant, potatoes, green beans, and early peas. My muscles are screaming. The weather has been beautiful and I have enjoyed being outside. I'm afraid its short-lived. The temperatures and rising and the humidity is climbing. Summer is just around the corner.

So.. do you recycle all you can? It really doesn't take much effort and every little bit helps. Seriously.

My brother and his family were in last week. I know I miss them, but it isn't until I'm holding them in my arm that I realize just how much. It was a busy week of visiting when we could and eating meals together. My bros kids are about the same age as mine by a year here and there and he has 2 girl and 3 boys where I have 2 girls and 1 boy. They all get along really well tho - especially for not being raised together - and look forward to visits together. I had 6 kids overnight (3 mine, 3 his) and what a blast they had. Guitar hero rocks. My oldest nephew is amazing on that thing. We all had a good time just hanging out. They even let me try and I got 66% Whoo hoo.

They are back home now and things have settled down here too. Life continues. It's just a lil empty without them around.

shopping mania

A good friend and I have been doing some serious shopping lately. That woman can find some deals and she really helps me a lot when it comes to outfits and accessories. She's a pro! LOL Last weekend she found a shirt for 2.39! This weekend she scooped up two skirts. Pennies on the dollar. I love saving money. and we not shopping walmart either, people!
